Operation Swiftification: The day I created a Squad of Swifties
Once upon a time, the planets and the fates and all the stars aligned.
Back to December (well, actually back in high school), we were assigned a group task: Pick a song, analyze it, and present it.
It was looking like a contest. Everyone wanted to present their favorite band. It was not the moment to be delicate. With the help of my best friend, we decided to make our choice resonate evermore 🚀
I wanted “You Belong With Me”. A classic love story. But the others? They wanted Eminem or Imagine Dragons. They wanted style.
It definitely was a holy ground. Every day was a battle. I was complicated, I was irrational. But fortunately, they were not mean.
The bad blood ended when we got in the same room and listened to “I Knew You Were Trouble”. It was the compromise. The song that would unite the clans. 🎶
We practiced our speech. We learned about Taylor Swift. My teammates were hesitant at first. But after listening over and over, the sparks flew. They were connected by the invisible string of her lyrics. 🪢
The moment of the speech arrived, but they were speechless. Their cheeks were turning red, and that’s the moment I knew victory was mine. I was shining like fireworks, enchanted to present my favorite artist. The song started, and the whole place became shimmer. 🌟
My group was happy and confused at the same time. They were ready for it. They discovered that romance is not dead, and being a lover doesn’t make you less of a man. 💘
I think they will remember this moment forever and always. It was the beginning of their Swiftie era.
In the future, haters gonna hate, and her reputation couldn’t get worse, but I’m sure they never let her picture burn. Because Swifties know that in a black and white world, you can decide to be screaming color. All you have to do is stay. 🎨
My evangelization era didn’t end there. Two years later, nothing had changed. Senior year. A capella. Fearless, I sang “All Too Well”. Six minutes of my treacherous singing voice.
But now that the song is a masterpiece, I bet they think about me when they hear it. 🎧
