Why I Stopped Playing Chess
I used to be good at chess. Like, really good. I loved the mental gymnastics, the strategy, the thrill of outsmarting an opponent. But there was one game I was losing badly: the game of self-control. 😓
I was addicted. The dopamine hit of a win was intoxicating, but the frustration of a loss was crushing. And let’s be honest, I lost my fair share (usually to some sneaky pawn I overlooked). ♟️
It wasn’t just the game; it was the obsession. I’d lose hours, ignoring friends, skipping workouts, and neglecting my studies. Chess had consumed me. 🤯
So, I made a hard call: I quit. Cold turkey.
I knew I’d miss it. But life is too short to be angry at a board game. ⏳
And guess what? It was the best decision ever. I got my life back. I reconnected with friends, hit the gym again, and found balance. I still appreciate the game, but now I do it from a safe distance. 🔝
