DEVLog - June

In June I opened 92 pull requests in the SignatureAPI repository. That was my highest number so far. Most of the month went into making existing things cleaner and more reliable.

I wrote this devlog later, from my GitHub history, to fill a gap in the series.

Cleaning up SignatureAPI

SignatureAPI got 324 of my 479 commits this month. A signing ceremony is the session where one recipient reviews and signs a document. Over time, each type of ceremony had grown its own way of being created. I refactored them so they all go through one path. I deleted the duplicated code, and a recipient is now marked as failed when its ceremony cannot be created.

I also worked on accessibility fixes, faster dashboard queries and a small indicator that shows the system status. We shipped 18 production releases in June.

On the website, I added a status page powered by the Statuspage API, so anyone can check if the service is healthy. I also wrote a changelog entry and a blog post about the MCP server we built in May.

NotuDocs splits in two

NotuDocs used to be one app that served both the marketing pages and the product. The marketing pages ran as dynamic functions, so a server built each page on every visit.

So I split the code into a monorepo, one repository with several apps inside. The marketing site is now static and runs on Cloudflare. The app itself runs on Vercel. They share code through a common package. The cutover is done. It needed three fixes on the day it went live, and I wrote them down in the cutover notes.

From talking to stories

I published a small open source project called Story Studio. It is a notebook for turning yapping (talking freely about an idea) into stories for personal video essays.

You can dictate with your voice instead of typing. The whole app works in Spanish and English, and dictation follows the language you pick. Spanish is the default.

Guides about school rules

ParentSignature got new guides about state laws on phones in schools, like the California Phone-Free School Act and the Texas rules for the 2026 to 2027 school year. I also wrote a comparison with Permission Click and a guide to Jotform alternatives for permission slips.

A page for Venezuela

On this site, I added a page with emergency resources for the earthquake in Venezuela, at /links/terremoto-venezuela. I also started a design document for a practice app to record yourself and review it later.

The next steps

  • SignatureAPI: start work on qualified electronic signatures.
  • ParentSignature: a real product for schools, not only a landing page.
