DEVLog - August

August had 822 commits across 13 repositories. Many of them went into personal tools that I keep private. The rest went into SignatureAPI, the school app and one small public gift.

I wrote this devlog later, from my GitHub history, to fill a gap in the series.

Qualified signatures take shape

SignatureAPI got 322 commits from me. The biggest piece was qualified electronic signatures. A qualified signature needs a certificate held by a trusted provider, so SignatureAPI cannot create it alone. It has to ask someone else to sign.

To do that, I worked on a protocol we call SWP/1, the Signing Worker Protocol. A signing worker is a small service that receives a document fingerprint and returns a signature. I also worked on an adapter for CSC, the Cloud Signature Consortium standard that many providers use. All of this stayed behind a feature flag, so it was not open to everyone yet.

Other work this month:

  • Testing with AI agents. Our MCP server got tools to read emails in test mode. An AI agent can now read test emails and get the signing link from them.
  • Custom authentication. You can now create a ceremony with custom authentication right from a recipient’s page in the dashboard.
  • Accessibility. I fixed gaps in the signing ceremony to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, the common accessibility standard. That means better dialogs, error messages that screen readers announce, and visible focus.
  • Faster tests. I rebuilt our end-to-end tests so they run in parallel.

On the website, I documented our ChatGPT app, which is now published, and added Codex to the guide for connecting AI clients. I also wrote a page about the Brazil ICP-Brasil attestation from last month.

Everyone is a person

ParentSignature for Schools got 42 commits. The main change was a rebuild of the roster. Now everyone in it is a person, and being the subject of a form is just a role a person can have.

You can add anyone by hand, and you pick who signs by searching for them. Each form record is now a dashboard of documents, with the roster next to it. Every code branch also gets its own preview site that you can log into, which makes testing easier.

A small dog for big questions

I published a tiny public project called Perrito de Mar. It is a small virtual dog for emotional support, for those moments when big questions feel heavy. Its description says it best: “Un perro pequeño para preguntas grandes.”

Private tools

The rest of the month went into personal tools I am not ready to share. I also started a private collection of skills for AI coding agents, small instruction files that teach an agent how to do a task well.

Privacy Policy Review got an SEO overhaul, with static marketing pages, FAQs and an llms.txt file for AI search engines.

What’s next

  • SignatureAPI: more tools for AI agents and developers.
  • ParentSignature for Schools: let AI assistants work with the app.
