Solo Travel: An Unforgettable Adventure

Solo Travel: An Unforgettable Adventure

So, I disappeared for a month.

It wasn’t writer’s block. It wasn’t burnout (well, maybe a little). I was busy living out a dream: Solo traveling through Spain and Portugal.

I didn’t want to post while I was there. I wanted to soak it all in. But now that I’m back, I have to sell you on this idea. You need to travel alone at least once.

Toledo vibes.

Why You Should Do It

Imagine a trip where you answer to no one. No compromises. No “what do you want to eat?” debates. Just you and the world.

Ultimate Freedom

When you travel alone, you are the CEO of your trip.

I planned four days in Madrid. I loved it, so I stayed for seven. Just like that.

This level of freedom is addictive. You wake up and decide your day. But it comes with responsibility—if you mess up, there’s no one else to blame.

Learning Who You Are

Solo travel forces you out of your shell.

I arrived with no hotel booked (risky, I know). But I figured it out. I learned to navigate foreign cities, languages, and transit systems.

I also discovered I’m actually pretty good at talking to strangers. I learned that I can be charming when I need to be. I rediscovered parts of myself I’d buried under “adulting.”

Sevilla was magic.

You Won’t Be Lonely

People assume solo travel is lonely. It’s the opposite.

When you’re alone, you’re approachable. You’re forced to make connections.

I met people in hostels, in parks, on tours. I met people I now consider lifelong friends. (Pro tip: Snapchat is somehow still a thing with travelers, especially Americans/Canadians. Download it. Trust me.)

Made some great friends in Barcelona.

The Challenges (Because It’s Not All Sunshine)

It’s not all tapas and sunsets.

Safety First

You have to watch your own back.

I had a scare where I thought I’d had my identity stolen after leaving my documents with some “new friends.” (It turned out fine, but for a few hours, I was sweating). Trust your gut. Lock your stuff up.

The “Single Tax”

Traveling alone is more expensive. No splitting hotel rooms or cab fares.

Worth every penny.
Worth every penny.

You can mitigate this with hostels and public transit, but yeah, having a partner is definitely cheaper.

Problem Solving 101

When things go wrong (and they will), you have to fix them.

Booking errors? Your problem. Lost train ticket? Your problem. It sounds stressful, but it teaches you incredible self-reliance.

Just Go

Solo travel is an investment in yourself. It changes you.

Pack light, go far.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a total newbie, take the plunge. It’s cheaper than you think and more rewarding than you can imagine. The world is waiting.
